Alex Zhu

Alex is the founder and president of the Mathematical Metaphysics Institute. He has worked full-time on AI alignment since 2017. He helps with AI alignment grantmaking through Jaan Tallinn's Survival and Flourishing Fund, and previously through the EA Long-Term Future Fund. In 2023, he co-hosted retreats with respected AI alignment thinkers in which participants “came out of the closet” to each other about the importance of spirituality for AI alignment.

Previously, Alex placed 1st in the 2012 USA Math Olympiad and 15th in the 2012 Putnam Competition. He dropped out of MIT in 2015 to co-found AlphaSheets, which raised $5M+ before being acquired by Google.
