David Spivak

Since his PhD from UC Berkeley in 2007, David has worked to bring category-theoretic ideas into science, technology, and society, through novel mathematical research, in collaboration with scientists and engineers from disciplines including Materials Science, Robotics, Aeronautics, and Computer Science. He co-founded the Topos Institute and Weve, both dedicated to improving humanity's collective sensemaking ability.

David has found that contemplation clears away the pervasive cloud of premature conclusions and guesswork that our culture presents us with, opening space for direct experiences that make us more conscious of something. He then works to encode these insights mathematically, so they can be shared and enacted at scale.
